The Idiocracy movie starring Luke Wilson (as Joe) and Maya Rudolph (as Rita), was created by Mike Judge. The style of humor in this film is reminiscent of other comedies created by Judge including Beavis and Butthead, Office Space, and King of the Hill. The Idiocracy DVD is worth getting for anyone looking for a funny comedy to watch.

In Idiocracy the movie, Joe Bauers works as an Army librarian. The military chooses him to participate in an experiment due to his average level of intelligence, lack of outstanding future contributions, and the fact that he’s unlikely to be missed. Joe is average in every way. He is one of two people chosen to be the guinea pigs for a top-secret hibernation experiment. The other participant is a prostitute named Rita. Joe and Rita are left and forgotten when an unexpected natural disaster takes place—so rather than the 1 year planned, they awaken after 500 years have passed, and idiots have taken over the world. Generations of stupid people have reproduced, leaving Joe and Rita as the most intelligent people in the new society.
Idiocracy is knee-slapping funny, but it is surprisingly touching at times. It is not only funny, but involves a story that keeps viewers’ attention. It’s a great performance by Wilson and Rudolph as well as other cast members. (The Idiocracy soundtrack is also worth getting!)
Wilson is known for a quirky type of humor like that in films My Super Ex Girlfriend, more mainstream Legally Blond, and more recent films like the Wendell Baker Story; but, he does a fabulous job of pulling off the bewildered Joe in a world of morons.
